LANDSCAPE GARDEN, DEINZE

Project number two of my first year Garden and Landscape architecture is situated in Deinze. The garden borders a nature reserve and a stream called Rekkelingebeek. This is a great asset. The view is amazing and by keeping the borders blurry, you can optically increase the size of your own garden.

There are a few Poplar trees on the garden plot. Some are not in the greatest condition, but they are important for the excisting animals. Because of the size of the trees, it is not wise, in my opinion, to remove them. They produce a lot more oxygen than a couple of new, smaller trees.

The terrace is 4 steps lower than the house. When you look out of the window, your view will not be blocked by a table and chairs. Near the terrace, there is a swimming pool. It is also placed  lower and a little more sheltered from the wind. Because of the dimensions of the swimming pool, it can be a big eye-catcher. In a landscape garden like this one, we don't want it to be so. We want to hide it because we want to emphasize the natural elements.

On the east side, I use a solitary Oak (Quercus robur). It is one of the trees in this region with the biggest biodiversity. On that place, it can grow to its full potential.
